The Day of New Beginnings
Access to All God’s Mysteries
Mat. 13:
10 And the disciples came and said to Him, "Why do You speak to them in parables?"
11* Jesus answered them, "To you it has been granted to know the mysteries of the kingdom of heaven, but to them it has not been granted.
Instead of focusing on why the multitudes were not granted to know the mysteries of the kingdom of God, which is explained a few verses later, let’s focus on why it was granted the disciples.
Mat. 13:
34* All these things Jesus spoke to the crowds in parables, and He did not speak to them without a parable.
35* This was to fulfill what was spoken through the prophet: "I WILL OPEN MY MOUTH IN PARABLES; I WILL UTTER THINGS HIDDEN SINCE THE FOUNDATION OF THE WORLD."
The above verses have their root in Psalm 78:
1 ¶ (A Maskil of Asaph.) Listen, O my people, to my instruction; Incline your ears to the words of my mouth.
2 I will open my mouth in a parable; I will utter dark sayings of old,
3 Which we have heard and known, And our fathers have told us.
4 We will not conceal them from their children, But tell to the generation to come the praises of the LORD, And His strength and His wondrous works that He has done.
This psalm speaks mystically of a generation to come. It implies the “dark sayings of old” will not be concealed from this generation. What generation does this psalm refer to? First, we must look past the interpretation as being in a time realm in which we measure a generation by a certain number of years. A generation is also interpreted in the Scriptures as a race, such as when Jesus said in Mat. 24 “that this generation will not pass away until all these things take place.”
The Greek word for race here is genea. genea {ghen-eh-ah'}from (a presumed derivative of) 1085; TDNT - 1:662,114; n f
1) fathered, birth, nativity
2) that which has been begotten, men of the same stock, a family
The several ranks of natural descent, the successive members of a genealogy
2b) metaph. a group of men very like each other in endowments,
pursuits, character
Generation here speaks of those who have been fathered, who have been generated or begotten. Jesus is saying that there is a race of people who will not pass away until all things take place. This does not refer to the natural Jews. It speaks of a people who come forth in Christ’s image. They bear His nature because He fathers them (Heb. 12). This is the generation to which nothing will be concealed. It is to this generation of those bearing Christ’s image that it is granted to know the mysteries of the kingdom of God.
There are several passages that speak prophetically of a generation that is to come.
Ps. 22:
27 All the ends of the earth will remember and turn to the LORD, And all the families of the nations will worship before Thee.
28 For the kingdom is the LORD'S, And He rules over the nations.
29 All the prosperous of the earth will eat and worship, All those who go down to the dust will bow before Him, Even he who cannot keep his soul alive.
30 Posterity will serve Him; It will be told of the LORD to the coming generation.
31 They will come and will declare His righteousness To a people who will be born, that He has performed it.
Ps.24:
3 ¶ Who may ascend into the hill of the LORD? And who may stand in His holy place?
4 He who has clean hands and a pure heart, Who has not lifted up his soul to falsehood, And has not sworn deceitfully.
5 He shall receive a blessing from the LORD And righteousness from the God of his salvation.
6 This is the generation of those who seek Him, Who seek Thy face--even Jacob. Selah.
Ps 73:
13 Surely in vain I have kept my heart pure, And washed my hands in innocence;
14 For I have been stricken all day long, And chastened every morning.
15 ¶ If I had said, "I will speak thus," Behold, I should have betrayed the generation of Thy children.
Ps.102:
13 Thou wilt arise and have compassion on Zion; For it is time to be gracious to her, For the appointed time has come.
14 Surely Thy servants find pleasure in her stones, And feel pity for her dust.
15 So the nations will fear the name of the LORD, And all the kings of the earth Thy glory.
16 For the LORD has built up Zion; He has appeared in His glory.
17 He has regarded the prayer of the destitute, And has not despised their prayer.
18 This will be written for the generation to come; That a people yet to be created may praise the LORD.
“A people yet to be created,” says the Psalmist. This is happening now. It began mystically with the twelve disciples. They were granted to know the mysteries of the kingdom of God because they were partaking of Christ’s nature. This “generation,” or created people, is a perpetuation of Christ’s seed in the earth (Isa. 53:10). Bearing the nature of Christ is more than accepting Jesus as Savior. His nature is created in a people as they submit to His Lordship and the cross is worked in their lives.
The reason the mysteries of the kingdom of God are concealed to the majority of Christianity, particularly the denominational systems, is because they are not participators in this chosen race of people.
1Pe 2:9* But you are A CHOSEN RACE, A royal PRIESTHOOD, A HOLY NATION, A PEOPLE FOR God's OWN POSSESSION, so that you may proclaim the excellencies of Him who has called you out of darkness into His marvelous light;
Accepting Christ is not the qualifier. Going on to maturity and beginning to appropriate His nature is the key. As our self life is crucified and His nature is formed in us, we have access to all the mysteries of the kingdom of God.
