God Ultimate Purpose

As Christians we are motivated by many things. Perhaps God has called us to a certain ministry, or simply burdened us to see a certain thing accomplished in the earth. Whatever we are motivated by, even when God is the author, the tendency is to become so wrapped up in it we miss God’s ultimate purpose. It is easy to do. Humans tend to be very one dimensional when it comes to goals.  That’s why the successful in the earthly realm are usually very goal oriented, stubborn and resolute in their pursuit of their objective. They are pit bulls in that they don’t allow themselves to be overcome with discouragement, and they persist until their goal is realized. This is fine up until a point. But with spiritual matters, regardless of the job at hand, there is always the ultimate goal that God has for His people. If we lose sight of it, discouragement and disillusionment will surely catch up with us.

Rom. 8:
28  And we know that God causes all things to work together for good to those who love God, to those who are called according to His purpose.
29 ¶  For those whom He foreknew, He also predestined to become conformed to the image of His Son, so that He would be the firstborn among many brethren;

God’s purpose is to produce sons in the image of the Firstborn. This requires a thorough work in us that transcends any task or ministry He may call us to along the way. Many times God Himself will lead us down dead end alleys to perfect our spirits. If all we are living for is the task at hand, we will experience bitter disappointment. But if we keep our eyes on the ultimate goal, we will never be disillusioned because everything in our lives is always working toward that end. God’s desire is for sons.
