The Realm of David

 

Saul and David have been used again and again as types of what is called old order and the new order of the Kingdom. Variances on that theme include Saul as a type of the church age and David as a type of the coming Kingdom. But there is something more here.
 
Saul and David are indicative of two different realms. Saul is a predominately soulish realm while David is a type of the realm of spirit. Recently I had a dream in which I was in a large auditorium and a Rabbi, holding a copy of the Torah in his arms, was teaching about David. As he taught, the Holy Spirit filled me with a tremendous zeal and intensity. I rushed up on the stage and began to shout at the Rabbi. The intensity I was feeling was incredible. I kept shouting, “No, no, no! David was a man after God’s own heart.” I can’t remember exactly what he was saying other than he was teaching on a secular level and missing completely the significance of David. I also kept saying, “This is a thing of spirit.” I then started telling the Rabbi, although I knew he didn’t accept the New Testament, that Jesus came forth as the Son of David. I said to him that if he didn’t believe in Jesus, he still had to understand that his Messiah in whom his Torah spoke of, would come forth through David. At one point the Rabbi tried to call attention to David’s mistakes, but the intensity continued to fill me as I reiterated to him again that David was a man after God’s own heart. 
 
I told the Rabbi, “This is a thing of spirit.” David is a pure realm of spirit that is coming forth. It’s the realm that is after God’s own heart. It is the realm that comes to displace the realm of Saul. Saul is a predominately soul realm. This is where it gets tricky, because there is something of God in the realm of soul. When the teaching comes that Saul represents  “old order” and David the new order of the Kingdom, it can be misleading.               
 
Many times it’s interpreted in the soul realm and mingled with man’s input and slant. Revelation on a particular subject does not necessarily translate into a Kingdom manifestation. “Kingdom truths” do not necessarily make a person, church or movement part of the new order God is revealing.
 
Revelation is tricky. The realm from which it is manifested is the determining factor. The realm of David is the realm of pure spirit in which nothing of the soul or flesh of man is mingled. David was a man after God’s own heart. This realm of spirit is after God’s own heart. It’s where He is manifested perfectly apart from man muddying the waters with his soulish footprints. The true Body of Christ will come forth out of this realm as a corporate man after God’s own heart. A man who will perform all My will is what God said of David. It’s interesting that Jesus was referred to as the Son of David. All the Messianic prophecies point to One who would come forth from the house of David. It is true in this hour also. The true manifestation of Christ comes forth out of this David realm. The Lord will be revealed out of a pure realm of spirit. He will not come forth through the realm of Saul. It will not be a soulish manifestation. 
 
All through Christianity, and even in much of what is called “Kingdom”, Saul still reigns. It is at best a mixture of soul and spirit. While David waited for God to establish him over all Israel, Saul still dominated the scene. God was in a measure still in the reign of Saul, although He had already anointed and chosen David. There was still a measure of deliverance and victory from Israel’s enemies under the realm of Saul. But God placed no restraints upon David to submit to that realm beyond the fact that he was not to touch Saul. David could not kill Saul. That was something that the Lord eventually did Himself. David had a measure of honor and respect for the “Lord’s anointed”, but he was not bound by that realm of rule. 
 
At this point in time God is beginning to free His people from Saul. No more are they going to be obligated to serve and submit to a realm that keeps them in bondage. Their submission in the realm of David is opening the door for the Christ in them to be fully liberated. Many lords have had dominion over us, but in this hour He alone will be exalted.
 
From a message entitled, Is Your Position a Pedestal?, John Robert Stevens writes:
 
“The relinquishing of position equals revolution.  This is what the world tries to do by violence and war, but they are not trying to establish the Kingdom.  The Kingdom of God will replace all the other kingdoms - not by anarchy, but by a spiritual revolution.  Once we understand this principle, then the people who have a commission will never be able to make a position out of it.  A man who moves in a commission is never a threat to anyone; he is only a blessing.  When you know you can turn your back on your brother without fear, the Kingdom is coming.”
 
The realm of Saul has taught and perpetuated the concept of divine order and it has yet to bring the freedom and liberation that will come as the realm of David is established. Much has been taught on the foundational ministries of Ephesians four (Apostles, Prophets, Evangelists, Pastors and Teachers). Saul has taught on that subject and attempted to create a divine order out of it, but it has only been a shadow of true order. It has only perpetuated the position and hierarchy of the reign of Saul.
 
In the books of Kings and Chronicles the high places are mentioned frequently. They were places in which Israel worshipped both false gods and the Lord Himself. Time after time these books mention the fact that this king or that king did right in the sight of the Lord, but never tore down the high places. In was in Jerusalem that God had ordained the sacrifices to be offered, but Israel continually sacrificed on the high places. The high places are a type of the soul realm also. It could be said they are a type of the false order that exists in the realm of “Kingdom teaching” today. Yes, sacrifices were made to the Lord there. Yes, God was honored there at times. But it was in Jerusalem that God had established the sacrifice. The true order of God was almost never honored. Jesus told the woman at the well that the time was coming that neither on the mountain or in Jerusalem would people worship the Father. But they would worship Him in spirit and truth. “God is spirit and they that worship Him must worship Him in spirit and truth.”  Jesus didn’t say God is a spirit, He said God is spirit. In this realm of David is found the true worship of the Lord.
 
The book of Hebrews speaks of having our senses trained to discern both good and evil. The only way this realm of David can be discerned and seen is through the Word of God, like a sharp two-edged sword in our lives, dividing between soul and spirit. This comes through the cross. If we aren’t dying to the realm of Saul, we can’t discern the realm of David.
